When Nephi constructs the temple, they used what they had. (Verse 15)
They couldn't construct the temple like Solomon did, with precious things, but the workmanship was exceedingly fine (Verse 16).
They were industrious, and worked hard.
I know there's a parenting message in there. Work with what you have, and even though in the eye of the world it might not be precious, your workmanship will be exceedingly fine.
